Several cups of hot chocolate may not only prevent the cold days in the winter, but also can help people with obesity in controlling diabetes.

It is expressed as a professor of food science researchers, Joshua Lambert at Penn State who conducted experiments on mice. The animals were fed a diet high in cocoa powder with 10 tablespoons of fat equivalent, or approximately four to five cups of hot chocolate for 10 weeks.

"What surprised me was the effect. Its effect on weight loss is not as large as we expected, but I was surprised at the dramatic reduction of inflammation and heart disease, "said Lambert was quoted Medicalnewstoday.

The researchers reported that several indicators of inflammation and diabetes in rats fed chocolate supplements significantly lower than mice fed a high-fat diet without cocoa powder. For example, they have approximately 27% lower plasma insulin levels than mice not fed cocoa. High levels of insulin is a sign that the patient has diabetes.

In addition, Lambert said another theory is that the excess in the diet interfere with the body's ability to maintain the bacterial components called endotoxins. Endotoxin is a bacteria that enters the bloodstream through the gaps between the cells in the digestive system. In this case cocoa can help improve intestinal barrier function.

"Most researchers tend to avoid obesity chocolate, because chocolate contains a high fat, high sugar and is usually considered an indulgence. However, low-fat cocoa powder and low in sugar, we saw brown powder that contains many polyphenolic compounds such as green tea and wine that have been researched health benefits, "he said.
